Brown Sugar Rice Custard
Serves 6
Ingredients
One cup cooked Farmhouse Long Grain White Rice
4 eggs
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups milk
Nutmeg or cinnamon (optional)
Directions
- Spread rice in the bottom of a buttered 5-cup baking dish.
- Beat eggs; stir in sugar, salt, orange peel and vanilla. Add milk.
- Pour carefully over rice.
- Sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon, if desired.
- Set dish in larger pan containing 1 inch hot water.
- Bake in 325 degree oven until soft-set in center, 45 to 50 minutes.
- Remove dish with custard from hot water. Cool, then refrigerate.
